LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Brown men's soccer team fell to Siena 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Hickey Field.
The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the first half, outshot the Saints 15-6 on the day, and earned more corners at 8-3, but Siena was able to convert on all three shots it put on goal in the second half to claim the come-from-behind victory.
"We played very well at times and had a 2-0 lead at the half," head coach Pat Laughlin said. "Then we were having a difficult time being able to play the way we wanted to play in the second half. It was a challenging moment for us as a group.
"Hopefully with a week to train and prepare, we will be ready for the start of the Ivy League season next Saturday."
Brady Van Epps scored his first goal of the season in the 27th minute off a header from a great pass in from the left from Taha Kina. Derek Waleffe would double the Bears' lead with his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 42nd minute.
While Brown continued to outshoot Siena in the second half, 7-3, the scoring belonged all to the Saints. Goals by three different players in the 47th, 69th, and 70th minutes put Siena on top.
The final 20 minutes of action consisted of relentless offensive pressure by Brown, including three shots and three corners, but the Bears weren't able to tie things up.
Brown opens Ivy League play next Saturday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at Columbia.
