Rugby Cruises to 46-3 Home Win Over Sacred Heart

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's rugby team jumped to an early lead and cruised to a 46-3 win over Sacred Heart (0-2) Saturday morning at Marvel Field.
Eight different Bears converted tries as the Bears improve to 1-1 on the season with the victory.

"It's been a bit of a roller coaster ride in the last couple of weeks," said head coach Kathy Flores. "They played great today and I couldn't be prouder of how they played and it gave some of our new players the opportunity to get on the field."
The Bears converted three quick tries with two successful kicks from Lexi Nelson to jump to a 19-0 lead over the Pioneers early in the first half. Zy Thomas, Mahdia Parker, and Nelson converted the tries for the early lead.
Elizabeth Mahoney and Akilah Cathey converted tries to push Brown's lead to 29-0 with seven minutes to play in the opening half. Claudia Dyer made it 36-0 Brown before the half ended with her first career try.
Sacred Heart got on the board with 13 minutes to play in the second half as Aly Cunningham converted a penalty kick.
Noelle Lewis and Johanna Bandler converted tries in the final minutes of the game to push Brown's lead to 46-3.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, Oct. 2 with an away match at LIU. That match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Long Island.
