BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Brown women's rugby team took a 47-0 lead into the half and captured a 114-0 win over the LIU Sharks Saturday at Robert Blitz Field.
Three Bears converted four tries and six others converted one try as the Bears improve to 2-1 on the season with the victory.
"I'm very proud of the effort by our team, this was truly a group effort, everyone contributed in this win," said assistant coach Christine Newcomb. "LIU showed extreme mental toughness and caught us on our heels a number of times, but we were able to keep our composure and make adjustments."
Zy Thomas converted her first of four tries to open the scoring in the first half. That was followed by a pair of tries from Emmajane Rhodenhiser and one from Akilah Cathey to put the Bears up 28-0.
Before the first half finished, Brown added tries from Rhodenhiser, Noelle Lewis, and Mahdia Parker to take the 47-0 lead into the break.
Thomas opened the second half with a try on a feed from Rhodenhiser with Parker scoring seconds later to push Brown's lead to 59-0.
Olivia Duba and Ainsley Clapp added tries with Rhodenhiser's fourth of the game to drive the lead to 78-0. Gemma Ryu and Elizabeth Mahoney got in on the scoring with tries of their own to give the Bears a 95-0 lead.
Brown's offense was not finished as Parker converted two more tries and Thomas added another to finish the game with a 114-0 victory.
Duba converted nine kicks for the Bears while Morgan Cunningham added three of her own in the win.
The Bears return to action at Harvard on Saturday, October 9. The Bears and Crimson are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
