PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's rugby team (12-5) hosted the annual Brown 7s Tournament on Saturday at Berylson Family Fields, with the A Team clinching the championship and the B Team securing sixth place. The A Team went 4-0, and the B Team finished 1-3.

"It was a full team effort, and both sides grew as the day went on," Kathleen Flores Head Coach Rosalind Chou said.

Brown A def. St. Bonaventure 38-0
Building on their strong performance from the Round Robin Tournament, the Bears A Team opened the Brown 7s with a dominating 38-0 win over St. Bonaventure. Two tries apiece came from Lily Nowak and Laryssa Barbosa, while Julia Murray and Lily McGettigan each completed two conversions.

The Bears B Team fell in their first appearance of the day, 22-7, against AIC. Asha Davis scored the try. Naomi Van Zandt made the conversion, putting the Bears ahead 7-5 at halftime. However, AIC dominated the second half, scoring four tries and one conversion.

Continuing their strong showing, the Bears A Team dominated Coast Guard 55-0. Five tries came from Tatum Muller, with Charlotte Davies contributing three. Murray completed four conversions, while Genie Dickens added the fifth for the Bears.

With a decisive 41-0 win over Army 2 in their third match, the Bears A Team secured a spot in the championship. Two tries each came from Olivia Baptiste and Muller, while Davies contributed three. Conversions were made by Murray and McGettigan.

The Bears B Team secured a 20-7 victory over Northeastern to advance to the 5th-place match. The first half belonged to the Bears as Lauren Huang, Davis, and Jenna Lowry each scored a try, building a 15-0 halftime lead. Huang opened the second half with another try, and despite a late try and conversion from the Huskies, it wasn't enough to overtake the Bears.

In the 5th-place match against St. Bonaventure, the Bears B Team fought valiantly, but ultimately fell 22-7. The Bonnies opened the scoring, and Brown responded with a Van Zandt try and a successful conversion. The Bonnies pulled away in the second half with three tries and one conversion, resulting in a 6th-place finish for the Bears.

In the championship match, the Bears A Team upended Army 1 to win the Brown 7s championship, 29-17. Brown dominated the first half, leading 17-0 with tries by Baptiste, Genie Dickens, and Kate Muldoon, plus a Murray conversion. Davies added a try, and Murray converted in the second half. Army's late rally threatened before Barbosa's try sealed the win and title for Brown.
