Water polo beats George Washington in split on Saturday

The Bears beat George Washington but lost to Navy in the first game of the day.
PRINCETON, N.J. - The Brown men's water polo team split its two matches on Saturday (Sept. 11), beating George Washington 13-10 after falling to Navy to begin the day. Connor Enright led the way for all Brown players with five goals in the two games.
"We are still trying to figure out how to be more consistent as a unit," said head coach Felix Mercado. "Navy is too good of a team for us to give them easy scoring opportunities but I was very pleased with how we bounced back to get a win against a very good George Washington team."
Game 1 - vs Navy
Brown took an early lead in the first quarter with goals from Connor Enright to go up 2-0 two minutes in. Navy came back to score a goal that was responded to by Leo Berhman to put the Bears up 3-1. After Navy tied up the game, Cole Atwell put Brown on top after the first quarter.

Enright's third goal of the match put Brown up 5-4 in the second but Navy tied up the game before halftime.

In the second half, goals by Ben Kirshon and Filip Aleksic gave the Bears a 7-6 lead with 2:39 left in the third quarter, but Brown would be held scoreless for the rest of the game as Navy would score five goals to win the match 11-7.

Game 2 - vs. George Washington
The second game of the night was another back-and-forth game that Brown came out on top of against George Washington, 13-10. Andrew Penner scored the first goal of the game for the Bears and Evan Moore and Penner each added another goal to give Brown a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.

Moore tallied another goal to start the second and after two goals from George Washington, Cole Atwell and Connor Enright scored to put the Bears up 6-4 at the break.

The third started with a goal from Filip Aleksic. Enright, Atwell and Leo Berkman scored later in the quarter as Brown took a 10-8 lead to the final quarter.

George Washington got within two goals twice in the fourth quarter but each time, Brown was able to respond. Aleksic, Moore and Penner each tallied a goal to give Brown a 13-10 win.
The Bears will take on Stanford on Sunday (Sept. 12) to close out its weekend at Princeton.
