The Bears had two players each score twice but lost to close out the weekend in Princeton.
PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown men's water polo fell to No. 3 Stanford, 19-7, on Sunday (Sept. 12) to close out the weekend at Princeton. The Bears were led by Anderson Todd and Leo Berkman, who each scored two goals.
Stanford scored four goals to open the game before Brown tallied its first goal as Todd put the ball in the back of the net. The Bears allowed five more goals before Andrew Penner netted one of his own but Brown trailed 12-2 at halftime.
"Obviously playing a top-five team in the country is a hard task but our guys played hard and showed they are not afraid to battle," said head coach Felix Mercado. "We are looking forward to a great week of practice to continue our goal of getting better."
Berkman, Todd and Connor Enright all scored goals in the third quarter but the three goals by Brown were matches by four from Stanford.
In the final frame, Berkman scored his second goal of the game and Cole Atwell also scored.
Brown returns to the poll next weekend with matches against George Washington and Harvard in Cambridge, Mass., on Saturday, Sept. 18.
