TOKYO, JAPAN - Janet Leung '16 was one of the greatest softball players in Brown history. Now she hopes to achieve similar status in her native Canada by leading the country to an Olympic medal in the sport of softball in Tokyo, Japan.
While at Brown, Leung started all 151 games of her career finishing third all-time in at-bats (493) and fifth in doubles (35). She earned All-Ivy honors as a player in each of her four seasons on College Hill.
"Janet was such a great player for us," said Brown Softball head coach Kate Refsnyder. "She was a true leader and this opportunity could not come for a better player or person."
Leung is also no stranger to international competition as her first appearance for Team Canada was in 2013 when she competed as part of the Junior Women's National Team at the 2013 WBSC Junior Women's World Championships. She took part in Team Canada selection camps in 2014 and 2015 before making her debut with the Senior National Team in 2016 at the Japan Cup. She was also part of the national team for the 2018 WBSC Women's Softball World Championship in Chiba, Japan where she helped Canada secure bronze.
More recently, Leung helped Canada earn silver at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
