
Women’s Crew Alumna Madden ’18 Selected for U.S. Olympic Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's crew alumna Cicely Madden '18 has earned selection to the USRowing Women's Olympic Team and will represent the U.S. at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, USRowing announced on Friday.
Madden gained a spot in the women's quadruple scull through the camp selection process and will make her debut at the Olympic Games. Olympic rowing events will take place from July 23 through July 30, 2021. The Sea Forest Waterway in Tokyo will host all rowing events.

A native of Weston, Mass., Madden has competed on the senior level since 2019, winning a silver medal in the double scull at the 2019 World Rowing Cup II and placing fifth in the double scull at the 2019 World Rowing Championships. In February, she placed sixth in the single scull at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials – Rowing #1 before competing in the double scull at the second Olympic Trials.
During her time at Brown, Madden concluded her career as a four-time All-Ivy honoree, a two-time All-American – including a First Team selection in 2017 – and a two-time competitor at the U23 World Championships. Brown's 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year Award nominee, Madden competed with the first varsity eight in all 53 career spring races. She helped Brown win three Ivy League team titles (2015, 2016, 2017) and finish in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships in all four years.
The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 kick off July 23, 2021 and conclude August 8, 2021. Final selections to the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team are subject to U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee approval.
