Men’s Crew’s Legenzowski, Hatcher Win Events at U.S. U23 World Championships Trials

SARASOTA, Fla. – Brown University men's crew's Will Legenzowski '22 and Simon Hatcher '23 both won events at the USRowing U23 World Championships Trials at Benderson Park and have earned the right to represent the U.S. at the 2021 World Rowing U23 Championships July 7-11 in Racice, Czech Republic.
Legenzowski (Vista, N.Y.) captured first place in the men's single scull while Hatcher (Portland, Ore.) claimed first place in the men's double scull. This past spring, Legenzowski took first place in the B final and fifth overall in the men's single scull at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials in February.
Both Legenzowski and Hatcher opened racing on Monday with first-place finishes in their respective time trials. Legenzowski won his race in 6:36.58 – by 22.82 seconds. Hatcher took his race in a time of 6:17.97 with a margin of 4.53 seconds. In Tuesday's finals, Legenzowski won his race behind a time of 7:05.29 (an 8.63-second margin), and Hatcher claimed his race in 6:36.54 (an 8.18-second margin).

At Brown, Legenzowski won a bronze medal in the first varsity eight at the 2019 Eastern Sprints before helping the varsity eight win the petite final at the 2019 IRA National Championships. He won a bronze medal in the championship eight at the 2018 Head of the Charles and took third among collegiate crews at the same event in 2019. Hatcher captured a bronze medal with the club eight at the 2019 Head of the Charles.
