
Costa, Lee, Miller to Serve Gymnastics as Captains in 2021-22

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University gymnastics rising senior Mei Li Costa, rising junior Jasmine Lee, and rising senior Safiya Miller will serve the Bears as captains during the 2021-22 academic year, Brown head coach Sara Carver-Milne announced on Friday.

Costa (Lawrenceville, N.J.) will serve the Bears as a captain for the second straight year. In 2020, she garnered USAG First Team All-America on bars, earned First Team All-ECAC on bars, and won the Ivy Classic titles on vault and bars. As a freshman in 2019, Costa qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships on bars, won the bars title at USAG Nationals for First Team USAG All-America honors, garnered Brown's Kate Silver '86 Award given to the department's most outstanding first-year female athlete, gained First Team All-ECAC on bars and vault, and claimed the vault title at the Ivy Classic.

Lee (Bremerton, Wash.) will act as a captain for the Bears for the first time. In 2020, she earned Second Team All-Ivy Classic in the all-around and gained USAG Scholar-Athlete and WCGA All-Academic honors. As a freshman, Lee scored season highs of 9.575 on vault, 9.725 on bars, 9.800 on beam, 9.750 on floor, and a 38.700 in the all-around while competing in all nine meets, including four times as an all-around performer.

Miller (Bear, Del.) will also serve Brown as a captain for the first time. In 2020, she won the team's Unsung Hero Award while in 2019 she captured the program's Bruno Award. As a sophomore, Miller attended the 2020 Black Student-Athlete Summit in Austin, Texas.

Carver-Milne enters her 20th season as the head coach of the Brown gymnastics program in 2021-22 as the Bears look to return to competition after their 2021 season was canceled due to COVID-19.
