Labuda sets school record on day one of Bruno Invite

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's swimming and diving started off strong in the first day of the Bruno Invite on Friday (Dec. 3). The Bears sit on top of the three-team event after the first day in the pool.
The Bears began the night with a second-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay with the team of Ben Hayes, Horace Qiao, Lucas Hess and Jerry O'Mara clocking a time of 1:21.09. Harrison Powe, Daniel Alber, Marcus Lee and KJ Losee finished fourth for the Bears with a time of 1:22.50.
Michael Lincoln earned a third-place finish in the men's 500 yard freestyle. Lincoln finished in a time of 4:26.39 to lead all Bears in the event.
Ben Hayes had the best finish for the Bears in the men's 200 IM, taking ninth place in the event with a time of 1:49.04.
Qiao earned Brown's first win of the night with a time of 20.30 in the 50 freestyle. Hess and Lu also finished in the top eight, tying for sixth with a time of 20.99.
The men took to the boards for their 1-meter event and Trevor Labuda cruised to a win with a score of 355.43. Labuda set the school record in the 1-meter, besting the previous school record by over 20 points. Nicholas Shen took second for the Bears with 302.70 points and John Byers was fifth with 274.95 points.
The Bears took two of the top-three spots in the 400 Medley Relay with the team of Arwood, Kelly, Qiao and Lincoln winning the event with a time of 3:13.93. Le-Nguyen, Powe, Ma and Hess finished in third, clocking a time of 3:18.39.
Brown will continue competing at the Bruno Invite with day two of the event beginning with prelims starting at 10 a.m.
