PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's gymnastics team will host four meets in 2022, including the first-ever Gymnastic East Conference Championship meet, Brown head coach Sara Carver-Milne announced on Friday.
The Bears will also make a trip down to North Carolina in late January for a meet, where they will compete against two Power Five Conference schools.
"We are beyond excited to get back onto the competition floor after missing out on last season due to the pandemic," head coach Sara Carver-Milne said. "We're very eager and ready and we have 13 student-athletes on our team that have not had the opportunity to compete with us before, so we're really excited to see what they can do."
The season will get underway at Yale on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022 when Brown will face the Bulldogs along with LIU and West Chester. Brown will head back to New Haven the following weekend for a dual meet at Southern Connecticut State. Brown will conclude its three-meet road trip to begin the season on Jan. 22 with a meet at the University of North Carolina, which will feature the host Tar Heels along with Missouri and George Washington.
After returning home, the Bears will host Bridgeport and Southern Connecticut at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sunday, Jan. 30. After trips to West Chester and New Hampshire to start off February, Brown will host the annual Rumble and Tumble on Sunday, Feb. 20, featuring Bridgeport, RIC and LIU.
Yale will host the annual Ivy Classic on Feb. 27. After a trip to Rutgers, the Bears will host another dual meet against Bridgeport on Friday, March 11. The final meet of the regular season comes just two days later at the University of New Hampshire, which will also feature Penn State and Southern Conn. State.
"We are very excited about the trip to UNC and getting to compete against Missouri, an SEC team, and two EAGL teams in UNC and GW," Carver-Milne said. "I'm thrilled that we're bringing back the Rumble and Tumble. It's been a couple of years since we were able to do it and it's one of the most talked about events on campus each year, and we're really looking to put on a big performance in front of our home town crowd."
Brown has been selected to host the first-ever championship meet for the newly formed Gymnastics East Conference on Saturday, March 19. The meet will feature two sessions, one at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The 2022 USAG Collegiate National Championships will follow from April 8-10 in Ithaca, N.Y.
"We're extremely fortunate to be able to host our brand new conference championship in its first season," Carver-Milne said. "We'll have seven teams visiting and we're really expecting it to be a sold out event. It will be a great opportunity to showcase Brown and all the incredible things we have happening here."
