PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's crew senior Gus Rodriguez has been named a USRowing U23 Athlete of the Year. Rodriguez is joined by the Naval Academy's Griffin Dunne as the award's recipients.
Rodriguez and Dunne will be honored during the USRowing Annual Convention, held virtually this year from December 6 through December 11.
Rodriguez stroked the men's eight boat that competed in the 2021 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, held in Racice, Czech Republic last July. Rodriguez and the American boat captured the silver medal and were just two tenths of a second behind gold medal-winning Great Britain.
No stranger to international competition, Rodriguez represented the Red, White, and Blue at the U19 World Championships and previously rowed with the US National Junior Team.
Back on campus this fall, the Rye, New York native helped the First Championship Eight boat finish sixth at the Head of the Charles Regatta in late October.
