Men's swimming and diving loses close dual at Penn

PHILADELPHIA – Brown men's swimming and diving came up just short against Penn in a dual meet on Saturday (Nov. 13). The Bears lost 152-148 to the Quakers in a tight battle.
Brown took second in the 200 medley relay to start the meet with Reid Arwood, Jack Kelly, Chris Ma and Horace Qiao teaming for a time of 1:19.30.
The Bears finished in second and third in the 1000 free with Aida Wilson clocking a time of 9:25.30 and Mason Romantic finishing in a time of 9:33.58.
Brown swept the 200 freestyle with Michael Lincoln earning the win in 1:39.79. Tyler Lu (1:40.76) and Luka Scheidl (1:41.96) rounded out the podium.
Ben Hayes earned a win in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:49.99 and teammate Ma took third with a time of 1:51.47.
"That was a heartbreaker. We came out flat, didn't execute well and lost a few close races early in the meet, which put us in a 25 point hole at the half," said head coach Kevin Norman. "The team did do a great job storming back, picked up a lot of momentum and won some big races, but fell just short. I was very impressed by how hard we fought, we showed a lot of grit, but we can't give a talented team like Penn that big of a cushion, especially on the road."
Arwood won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:48.14 and took third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.45. Jack Kelly took second in the 100 breaststroke clocking a time of 56.83 and third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:03.76.
Qiao earend a second-place finish in the 50 free with a time of 21.21. Carlos Munoz Renteria finished third in the 200 back with a time of 1:51.14.
In the 100 free, Lincoln earned his second with of the day with a time of 45.98 and Lucas Hess added a second-place finish with a time of 46.21.
Andrew Berzolla picked up a win in the 500 free with a time of 4:33.78 and Lu took third by .01 with a time of 4:38.24.
The top-two spots belonged to Brown in the 100 butterfly with Ma winning the event in 49.33 and Qiao taking second (49.74).
Hayes finished in third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.20
The Bears team of Lincoln, Hess, Lee and Qiao teamed up for a win in the 400 free relay to close out the meet with a time of 3:04.35.
On the boards, Trevor Labuda posted a second-place finish in the 3-meter with a score of 326.25 and finished third in the 1-meter with a score of 275.78.
The Bears are back home for a dual meet against Yale on Friday (Nov. 19) beginning at 5 p.m.
