PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's soccer team lost to Dartmouth 1-0 on the team's Senior Day Saturday. The Bears outshot the Big Green 19-14, but weren't able to find the back of the net.
"A very challenging final Ivy game for us," head coach Patrick Laughlin said. "The players stepped up despite a lot of difficult things in the game, including losing Derek in the first half."
The first half started slow, but picked up pace as it went on. Dartmouth put four shots on goal, and had 10 total, in the first 45. Brown only managed three and one respectively.
The Big Green finally broke through in just the first minute of the second half when Finn Callahan sent a low cross to Eric Sachleben who poked it home.
Brown wouldn't go down without a fight as the Bears created multiple dangerous chances after the Big Green took the lead. Will Crain sent a high rocket on goal, but the Big Green goalie was able to tip it over the crossbar. Later, Malcolm Johnson beat the goalie to a ball, but his shot went just wide left.
In the 70th minute, Charlie Adams took a shot from almost midfield at an empty Dartmouth net, but it sailed high.
Overall in the second half, Brown outshot Dartmouth 16-4 and earned all 10 of its corners, while the Big Green had only one in the second half.
The Bears finish out the year at 6-10-1 with a 2-4-1 mark in Ivy play.
"I think that the players, throughout the year, worked as hard as they could and did everything they could to be successful for themselves and for each other," Laughlin said. "I'm really proud of the team and for the effort that they gave this year."
