
Volleyball to host Dartmouth and Harvard over weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown volleyball team is looking to keep its winning streak alive as the Bears play host to Dartmouth and Harvard over the weekend. Brown will take on the Big Green on Friday (Oct. 8) before hosting the Crimson on Saturday (Oct. 9).
The game against the Big Green will start at 7 p.m. and the match against Harvard will start at 5 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.

SCOUTING BROWN (10-3, 3-0 Ivy)
- Brown is riding a six-match winning streak heading in to the weekend after winning the first three Ivy League games of the year. It is the first time since 2001 that Brown has started Ivy League play 3-0.
- In 2001, the Bears finished 11-3 to win its last Ivy League title. The Bears started 4-0 during league play.
- Brown's six game win-streak is tied for its longest since winning 12-straight matches in 1998 when the Bears went 23-9 and 7-0 in Ivy League. Brown won six-straight matches during the 2019 season.
- Brown is hitting the second-best percentage in the Ivy League, hitting .244 on the season, and boasts the third-best defense in the league, holding opponents to just .185 hitting.
- Beau Vanderlaan holds the second-highest hitting percentage in the Ivy League at .373. In four of her last five matches, Vanderlaan has hit above .410 and hit .591 with 13 kills and no errors against Columbia in the last match.
- Kate Sheire is in the top-10 in both hitting percentage (.307 – 9th) and kills per set (3.10 – 10th). Sheire has been on a tear recently, finishing with double-figure kills in each of her last six matches after a three-kill performance against Rutgers. In Ivy League play, Sheire has 21, 19 and 12 kills and in two of those matches has hit .413 and .514. Sheire leads the team with 10 matches with double-figure kills.
- Sophia Miller has had double-figure kills in her last six matches and in seven of the nine matches she has played in. In the Ivy League, Miller sits at sixth in kills per set with 3.26.
- Cierra Jenkins sits in fourth in the league with 9.52 assists per set. Jenkins has played in seven matches this season and has dished out at least 31 assists in six of those matches. In her last four matches, Jenkins had 36, 48, 45 and 37 assists. Jenkins had posted double-doubles in each of her last three matches and has had 17 total kills in those last three matches.
- Dartmouth began the season 8-1 but has lost the first three matches on their Ivy League slate, falling in three sets to both Harvard and Penn and in three sets to Princeton.
- The Big Green are seventh in the league with a .206 hitting percentage but Amelia Gibbs is leading the Ivy League with a .378 hitting percentage.
- Dartmouth's defense is a backline heavy defense as the Big Green sits first in the league in digs per set (17.18) but last in the league in blocks per set (1.53).
- Emma Engstrom is third in the league in digs per set at 4.76. Five other players are averaging over 2.00 digs per set.
- The offense is led by Ellie Blain, who is averaging 3.83 kills per set. Gibbs is the only other play averaging over 2.00 kills per set at 2.27.
- Harvard began league play 2-0 but lost to Princeton in five sets in its last match. The Crimson will be in New Haven to play Yale before taking on the Bears on Saturday.
- Harvard is sixth in hitting percentage (.207) and seventh in opponent hitting percentage (.214) in the Ivy League.
- In the reverse of Dartmouth's season, Harvard is second in the league in blocks per set (2.27) and is last in the league in digs per set at 13.73.
- Jaimie Rao (3.24 kills per set) and Katie Vorheis (3.10 kills per set) lead the Crimson offense. Both players are hitting over .250 this season as well.
- The offense has three players that have guided it this season. Bella Almanza leads the team in assists per set (5.11), followed by Ashley Wang (.480) and Rocky Aguirre (4.13).
- On defense, three players are averaging at least a block per set. Ariana White sits at 1.15 per set, which is second in the league. Olivia Cooper sits at 1.02 per set and Ava Rauser is averaging 1.00 per set.
