Lucky number seven: Bears sweep Dartmouth for seventh-straight win.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball made quick work of Dartmouth, picking up a 3-0 win for the Bears' seventh-straight win. Kayla Griebl led the offense with 11 kills.
Brown (11-3, 4-0 Ivy) hit .225 as a team and held Dartmouth (8-5, 0-4 Ivy) hit just .059. The Bears finished with 40 kills to just 26 for the Big Green.
"It's never for us how we start, it's about gaining momentum and keeping it going," said head coach Ahen Kim. "It was good that we were able to have complete sets through the whole match. It's what we worked on this week."
Griebl was the only player to reach double-figure kills in the match. Sophia Miller and Kate Sheire added eight kills and Beau Vanderlaan and Cierra Jenkins each had six. Jenkins filled up the stat sheet finishing with 29 assists and 15 digs, as well as two blocks.
On defense, Brown finished the match with 12 blocks, led by Gabby Derrick who finished with six. Vanderlaan, Miller and Sheire each finished with four blocks.
The Bears jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the first set as Derrick bookended the run with a kill and a block. When Dartmouth scored the next three points, Sheire added two kills to push the lead back to 8-4.
A kill from Miller, plus two from Jenkins helped Brown continue to stretch its lead. Kristin Sellers added an ace, one of seven on the night for the Bears to get Brown ahead 14-7. Griebl and Jenkins combined for four more kills as Brown went on the win set one 25-17.
The second set went back-and-forth to start but three errors by Dartmouth put Brown up 12-10. A block by the duo of Miller and Sheire, a kill by Vanderlaan and an ace from Kaitlyn Wong helped put Brown up 19-13. Dartmouth pulled back within four at 20-16 but Brown scored five of the next six points to end the set.
Set three began with Vanderlaan going on a run, adding three kills to get Brown up 8-5. The two teams traded points until Dartmouth pulled within one at 11-10. Kills by Sheire and Griebl were part of a 4-0 run that made the score 15-10. At 20-14, Brown rattled off five-straight points, finishing the match with kills from Sheire and Miller.
Brown is back on the court on Saturday, Oct. 9 with a match against Harvard beginning at 5 p.m.
