PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The women's and coed sailing teams completed another weekend of fall competition this weekend from Oct. 2-3.
"It was a weekend of extremely close finishes for the team," head coach John Mollicone said. "It came down to the last races with Tualne at the Women's ACC Qualifier at ODU for the overall win. We were in the battle to win the Moody Trophy at URI until the end and the Danmark Trophy was extremely close racing with our coed team so close to the top five overall."
In the women's sole event of the weekend, they came in second out of 17 at the Atlantic Coast Qualifier. Olivia Belda and Emma Montogomery took second in Division A, while Caroline Bayless and Nora Ong won Division B. Overall, Brown finished just eight points behind first-place Tulane. The Bears qualified for the Atlantic Coast Championship as one of the top nine teams.
The coed team competed at three events: the Moody, Danmark, and Sister Ester Trophies.
At Moody, Brown came in third out of 18 teams. Hunter Zonnenberg and Izzy Cox came in fourth in Division A, while Jed Bell and Savannah Young took second in Division B.
At Danmark, the Bears took 10th place out of 20 teams. Connor Nelson and Julia Reynolds took 14th in Division A, with the highlight of the day coming with a Division B win by Jack Murphy, Madeleine McGrath and Madeleine Montagner.
Wrapping up the weekend, Brown came in fourth at Sister Ester. Brielle Willoughby and Mo Liu came in fifth in Division A, while Mason Stang and Sierra Bornheim came in sixth in Division B.
The coed team will compete at the Atlantic Coast Qualifier and the Smith Trophy next weekend. The women will head to the Stu Nelson Trophy.
