Field Hockey Hosts Penn Saturday; Travels to Providence Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown hosts Penn in Ivy League conference play this Saturday (Oct. 16) at Goldberger Family Field. On Sunday (Oct. 17), Brown heads across town to take on Providence at Lennon Field in its non-conference finale.
Saturday's game is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+. Sunday's game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and will stream on FloLive.

SCOUTING BROWN (6-6, 2-1 Ivy)
- Brown hosts Penn after a 2-1 week with wins over Holy Cross (4-0) and Columbia (1-0) and an overtime loss against Lafayette (2-1). The Bears are 6-6 overall in 2021 with a 2-1 conference mark.
- Brown's defense ranks second in the conference and seventh in the country with a combined .814 save percentage. Jodie Brine's .774 save percentage places her second in the Ivy League and 16th in the NCAA. Her 1.28 goals against average is third in the Ivy League and 17th in the country.
- Danielle van Rootselaar leads the Bears with nine goals and 22 points. She ranks third in the conference and tied for 17th in the NCAA in goals and third in the conference and 16th in the country in points.
- Van Rootselaar enters Saturday with an eight-game point streak. In the stretch, the senior has seven goals and two assists for 16 points.
- On the backend, freshman Julia Hitti is tied for second in the Ivy League with two defensive saves. She is one of three in the conference with multiple defensive saves this season. The Ashland, Massachusetts native has started 11 of 12 games in her first season.
- Penn enters Saturday's Ivy League contest with a 4-6 overall record and 1-2 conference mark. The Quakers fell to Princeton and Harvard, both nationally ranked at the time, before most recently taking a 2-1 overtime win over Cornell.
- All six of Penn's losses have come against nationally-ranked opponents.
- Penn's offense runs by committee as six players lead the team with two goals apiece. Four players are tied for the team lead with two assists and three players lead the team with six points. Gracyn Banks leads Penn with 10 shots on goal in 10 games.
- Sabien Pauman has started all 10 games in goal for the Quakers. She holds a .649 save percentage and 2.78 goals against average.
- Saturday's game marks the 44th meeting between Brown and Penn in a series dating back to 1977.
- Penn holds a 32-8-3 all-time record against Brown. The Bears look to snap a nine-game losing streak against the Quakers on Saturday.
- Providence enters the weekend with a 5-8 overall record and 1-3 mark in Big East conference play. Since beating Georgetown in late September, the Friars have dropped four straight, falling to UMass (2-0), UConn (3-0), VCU (1-0), and Temple (1-0).
- Niamh Gowing and Olivia Ward lead the Friars with four goals apiece in 2021. Lisa McNamara leads the team with seven assists. Gowing and McNamara are tied for the team lead with 11 points each.
- Asia Porter has started 12 of 13 games in goal for Providence. The sophomore holds a .745 save percentage and 2.17 goals against average. Her save percentage ranks 29th in the country.
- Sunday's game marks the 39th meeting between the Bears and Friars in a series dating back to 1982.
- The Friars hold a 26-10-2 record in the series. Brown's last win came at home in 2014, a 2-0 victory with goals from Katherine Kallergis '18 and Jaclyn Torres '17.
