PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tim Springfield, Alden-Rothenberg Men's & Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Coaching Chair, recently announced that Brown University assistant coach Ken Hunt has been elevated to the position of Associate Head Coach of Track and Field/Anne Rothenberg Assistant Coaching Chair.
Â
Hunt has served as the assistant coach for jumps and multi-events for eight seasons and is a two-time NCAA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year honoree. As a result of a generous philanthropic gift from a track & field alumnus, the Anne Rothenberg Assistant Coaching Chair was established in 2020 in honor of the extraordinary legacy of Anne's leadership of the program.
Â
"Ken has earned this promotion, and I couldn't be happier to see him take an expanded role in our program," Springfield said. "He has been a great coach for many years, and we're grateful to have him on our staff. Beyond the outstanding coach, Ken also is an outstanding mentor for our student-athletes and staff members."
Â
Hunt has coached 11 school records, five All-Americans, and 47 top-10 program performances during his eight seasons on College Hill, as well as a pair of all-time Ivy League record holders in the heptathlon (Carly Paul) and triple jump (Zion Lewis). He also coached two recipients of the Marjorie Brown Smith Award, given to Brown's outstanding female varsity athlete of the year, in O'Sha Williams (2016) and Carly Paul (2018).
Â
Hunt was named the Northeast Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year in 2019 after he guided his athletes to 51 of the team's 59 points at the Ivy League Outdoor Championships. His long jumpers went 1-2-3 to sweep the event at Heps, and four long jumpers and one high jumper all advanced to the NCAA Preliminary, while the long jump quad ranked fourth overall in the nation.
Â
During the 2020 indoor season, Hunt led his athletes to 32 combined points and a pair of individual titles at the Ivy League Championship, resulting in his second Assistant Coach of the Year honor in as many seasons. Zion Lewis thrived under his tutelage, setting the league, school, and facility record in the triple jump as well as the eighth-ranked mark in the nation to secure All-American status.
Â
Prior to Brown, Hunt spent the 2011-2012 season at LSU, having a hand in the team's NCAA National Outdoor Track Championship and 12 NCAA individual qualifiers. He previously served as an assistant coach at Georgia Southern, where his event group captured four individual titles during the 2010 season, as he was named a finalist for the NCAA Southeastern Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Hunt also coached at Southern Illinois and Marquette.
Â
A standout student-athlete at UW-Milwaukee, where he earned a degree in history, Hunt set the University and the Horizon League indoor and outdoor triple jump records.
