PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seniors Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) of the Brown women's soccer team and Zion Lewis (Canton, Ga.) of the track & field team were named as two of the Ivy League's nine nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced on Tuesday.
A three-time First Team All-Ivy selection, Carchio finished her career ranked 15th all-time at Brown in career points (49), 16th in career goals (16), and eighth in career assists (17). In 2019, she played a key role in helping Brown win its first Ivy League title and make its first NCAA Championship appearance since 1994. This past fall she earned First Team All-Ivy and Second Team All-East Region honors, while gaining a spot in the NEWISA Senior Bowl and selection as a Senior CLASS Award candidate. In Ivy League play in 2019 she ranked first in assists (three) and fourth in points (seven). As a junior she earned First Team All-Ivy, First Team All-New England, New England Midfielder of the Year, and Academic All-Ivy accolades, while ranking first in the Ivy League in points (28) and assists (eight) and second in goals (10).
Lewis is a two-time team captain, a six-time All-Ivy selection and a tremendous competitor who performed best when on the biggest stage. She was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer at the 2020 Ivy League Indoor Championship as she scored 18 points in three events, highlighted by an individual title in the triple jump, which set the league, school, and facility record for the eighth-best mark in the nation heading into the NCAA Championship. Lewis earned Northeast Regional Female Field Athlete of the Year and NCAA All-American honors at the end of the season. She completed her career with nine all-time top-10 program records, between the indoor and outdoor seasons, including a trio of school records in the 60 meters (indoor), triple jump (indoor) and 4x100 meter relay.
The NCAA Woman of the Year Award recognizes graduating female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
The Ivy League's conference-level nominees will be announced in August. The national selection committee will then choose the top 10 honorees in each NCAA division. From those 30 honorees, the national selection committee will determine the three finalists from each division. Finally, the members of the Committee on Women's Athletics will vote from among the top nine finalists to determine the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year this fall.
