Men's soccer collects over 3,000 canned food items during the month-long initiative
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University men's soccer team recently joined other soccer programs from around the country in Soccer United Against Hunger, a nationwide food drive spearheaded by NCAA men's and women's soccer coaches.
Players and coaches from the Bears' team, spread out across the United States and Canada, collected over 3,000 canned food items during the month of June. Members of the program organized events, distributed flyers, and raised donations in 16 different states to support local food pantries.
"It has been great to work on such an important issue this summer along with Soccer United Against Hunger," said head coach Patrick Laughlin. "The team really embraced this campaign while being spread across the country."
Food banks and pantries across the country have seen a soaring need during the COVID-19 pandemic, while simultaneously seeing a steep drop-off in cash and food donations. Soccer United Against Hunger, powered by United Soccer Coaches, took place throughout June to support food banks and food pantries across the nation.
