PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Five Brown women's rugby student-athletes were named to the 2019 All NIRA Tier 2 Team in an announcement made by the organization on Friday.
A total of six schools comprised the 16 First Team selections with junior Olivia Duba (San Ramon, Calif.), freshman Erin Jessop (Ashland, Mass.), senior Abby O'Keefe (St. Louis, Mo.), freshman Mahdia Parker (Harlem, N.Y.) and sophomore Zy Thomas (Fairfield, Calif.) representing Brown. Additionally, seven Honorable Mention were chosen from three different institutions.
All five Bears helped Brown earn a trip to the NIRA Tier 2 Championship Match in the fall 15s season.
Duba recorded two conversion kicks versus West Chester in the championship and converted a penalty kick and had an interception to help get the team there in the NIRA semifinals.
Jessop registered a penalty try in the NIRA Championship in her solid rookie campaign.
O'Keefe captained the program in the fall and touched down a try in the semifinal contest and recorded two tries twice over the course of the season.
Parker had a standout first year for the Bears and notched at least one try in six-straight matches. She also recorded a try in the semifinals against Queens.
Thomas, earning NIRA postseason honors for the second-consecutive year, tallied a try against West Chester in the NIRA Championship.
