
Baseball Cruises Past Kennesaw State, 19-5, in Series Opener

Brown (3-6) collected seven doubles and nine players posted at least one hit. The Bears drew 11 walks and outhit the Owls, 17-8. Kennesaw State dropped to 7-6 overall.

"Top to bottom, a solid team win for us," said head coach Grant Achilles. "Garett and Ryan threw the ball very well, and offensively we were clicking on all cylinders. Tomorrow will be another opportunity for us to come out and play some solid baseball."

Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) and Cameron Deere (Los Angeles, Calif.) had three hits with three RBIs apiece, while Rich Ciufo (Medford, N.Y.) drove in four runs with a pair of hits. Calvin Farris (San Diego, Calif.), Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Ryan Marra (Commerce, Mich.) each had two hits.

Delano earned the win on the mound behind five runs in seven innings with five strikeouts. Ryan Fisch (Sugar Land, Texas) finished with two frames of one-hit ball out of the bullpen. Jared Rine took the loss for the Owls with five runs allowed in five innings.

Brown kicked off the game with three runs on five hits in the top of the first, starting with three straight hits to open the frame, before Ciufo scored a pair with an RBI double down the left field line. Deere added an RBI single later in the inning.

The Owls evened the score with three runs in the third, but Brown answered right back in the top of the fourth, as Delano sent home Frank Caprio (Providence, R.I.) with a single to short. Lomuscio scored on a single by Marra one inning later to stretch the lead to 5-3.

The Bears scored two more times in the sixth frame when Delano and Ciufo both hit one-run doubles. Kennesaw's Garret Hodges answered with a solo homer in the bottom half to cut the Brown lead to 7-4.

Brown's offense took advantage of five walks and added three hits as the Bears erupted for seven runs in the seventh. After three players crossed on two walks and a hit by pitch, Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.) hit a two-run double down the left field line, before Deere followed with a two-run single to left center.

The Bears tacked on five more runs in the eighth, using four walks and a trio of hits to complete the scoring.

Brown and Kennesaw State will continue the four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday.
