ITHACA, N.Y. – The Brown men's track & field team posted several impressive performances to complete the second and final day of the Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Championships at Cornell's Barton Hall.
Princeton claimed the team title with 173 points, followed by Harvard (116), Penn (91), Yale (67), Cornell (56), Dartmouth (44), Columbia (40) and Brown (33).
"It was a tough day," said head coach Tim Springfield. "I knew after day one that there wasn't going to be a lot of daylight between 4th and 8th, and we came up short. We lost some of the small battles, and that was really all it took. Still, I'm proud of the efforts of the team--we aren't far away. I'm confident we'll have a much better result in the outdoor season."
Bretram Rogers (Grand Prairie, Texas) earned bronze in the 60-meter hurdles as he crossed the line in a time of 7.93, just shy of his own school record.
The Bears earned ten points in the weight throw on Saturday, led by senior Michael Coppolino (Cumberland, R.I.), who took third with a toss of 62-0.5. Sophomore Kegan Schroeter (Narragansett, R.I.) was right behind in fourth place at 61-4.75 for sixth all-time at Brown.
Demitri Jackson (Nashua, N.H.) turned in a fourth-place performance in the long jump with a leap of 23-8.25, setting a personal best for eighth all-time in Brown history. Rookie Zach Love (Fort Lee, N.J.) added a point in the event, as he placed sixth at 23-5.25.
Jono Pelusi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) placed fourth overall in the heptathlon with personal best 4,958 total points, highlighted by a first-place performance in the pole vault, as he moved from fifth to fourth after the final event.
Senior Cameron Daly (Meredith, N.H.) was fifth overall in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:24.86, while Calvin Perkins (Belmont, Mass.) turned-in a sixth-place finish in the finals of the 500 meters at 1:05.04.
Rookie Altan Mitchell (Ankara, Turkey) was fifth in the triple jump on Saturday with a leap of 49-0.75 for tenth all-time at Brown. Nigel Despinasse (Baton Rouge, La.) added a fifth-place performance in the shot put with a toss of 45-9.25.
