NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Brown women's tennis team picked up a 4-0 win over Cornell on Saturday at the ECAC Championship at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
"I was pleased with the way we responded today," said head coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "The energy and fight everyone showed in doubles carried into the first part of our singles play. The challenge is to keep our level of play throughout the entire match and be able to raise our level when the opponent responds. I was proud of Peri Sheinin, who stayed completely committed to her game plan and clinched the match with poise and determination."
Brown opened the morning by picking up a 6-1 win in second doubles from sophomore Julia Newman (Natick, Mass.) and sophomore Ryan Peus (Palos Verdes, Calif.) while a 6-2 victory from junior Courtney Kowalsky (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and senior Devon Jack (San Marino, Calif.) in the first spot clinched the point.
After picking up a point in fifth singles (Newman, 5-0 RET.), freshman Britany Lau (Kinnelon, N.J.) made it 3-0 in favor of the Bears with a 6-0, 6-1 showing in the third position. Junior Peri Sheinin (East Greenwich, R.I.) closed out the match by taking her sixth singles match, 6-3, 6-2.
The Bears will conclude play at the ECAC Championship tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 9) at 11:00 a.m., competing against Dartmouth.
