CANTON, N.Y. - The Brown women's hockey team skated to a 1-1 overtime tie at St. Lawrence on Saturday at Appleton Arena. Senior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) finished the day with an impressive 46 saves while sophomore Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) provided the Bears' lone goal.
"Calla played fantastic and kept us in the game," said head coach Carisa Zaban Wahlig.
Brown (3-19-3, 2-14-2 ECAC) held a 1-0 lead entering the third with the help of Maloney's first period tally, but Shailynn Snow tied the game for the Saints at 7:55 of the frame, which eventually forced overtime.
Neither team got much going in the extra stanza with St. Lawrence (11-12-7, 6-8-4 ECAC) outshooting the Bears, 2-1.
Brown capitalized on its only power play of the first period with Maloney registering her team leading sixth tally of the year when she skated in from the neutral zone for the score from the right faceoff circle. Senior Maybelline Beiring (Calumet, Mich.) got the play started while freshman Madie Stockfish (North Bay, Ontario) passed the puck up to Maloney.
The Bears improved to 2-for-2 on the penalty kill in the second while Isaac increased her save total to 27 with her 13 stops in the frame.
Despite Isaac's 17 saves in the third, St. Lawrence knotted up the game, 1-1, at 7:55 when the Saints caused a turnover in the Bears' defensive end and Snow finished from the slot.
Isaac's game total of 46 saves gives her six games this season with 40 or more stops. Lucy Morgan turned away 13 shots in the opposing net.
Brown was 1-for-2 overall on the power play and went 4-for-4 in fighting off infractions. The Bears are 25-of-26 on the penalty kill over their last seven games.
Maloney and sophomore Lizzy Gross (Scarborough, Maine) led Brown in shots on goal with three apiece while junior Darby Melia (Marshfield, Mass.) added two on target.
Brown next closes out its home slate for the 2019-20 season on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15, hosting No. 2/4 Cornell and Colgate, respectively, at Meehan Auditorium. Friday's game is set for 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's puck drop for Senior Day is at 3:00 p.m.
