CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman Casey Chan and junior Signe Golash each posted five wins in women's sabre to lead Brown University fencing on day one of the 2020 Ivy League Fencing Round-Robins on Saturday at Harvard University's Gordon Track.

In women's sabre, Chan (Cresskill, N.J.) went 5-5 while Golash (Syracuse, N.Y.) finished 5-7. Junior Arianna Ferretti (Old Field, N.Y.) posted a 5-7 mark in women's foil, and freshman Anisha Kasi (New City, N.Y.) notched a 4-8 mark in women's foil.

Facing seven top-10 teams on the day, the Bears finished with a combined 0-7 record, including three men's match-ups and four women's match-ups. The men fell to No. 6 Princeton (24-3), No. 2 Harvard (23-4), and No. 1 Columbia (23-4) while the women dropped decisions to No. 1 Princeton (21-6), No. 10 Cornell (17-10), No. 7 Harvard (21-6), and No. 2 Columbia (19-8).

The Bears came within one bout of squad wins on three occasions with women's foil and women's epee both falling 5-4 to Cornell and women's sabre coming within 5-4 of Columbia.

Next, Brown concludes competition at the Ivy League Round-Robins tomorrow – Sunday, February 9.
