
Women’s Hockey Falls to No. 7 Clarkson, 5-0

POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 7 Clarkson, 5-0, on Friday night at Cheel Arena. The Bears held the nationally ranked Golden Knights scoreless in the first period, but the home team scored three goals in the second and added two in the third for the victory.
Ella Shelton led Clarkson (19-4-6, 10-3-4 ECAC) with two goals and two assists while Elizabeth Giguere added one goal and two assists.
Sophomores Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) and Jacquie Tam (Toronto, Ontario) paced the Bears with four shots on target while senior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) finished with 34 saves in net, her 13th game this season with 30 or more stops.
Brown (3-19-2, 2-14-1 ECAC) kept Clarkson off the board in the opening period with Isaac contributing 15 saves. The Bears fought off the only penalty in the frame and improved to 20-for-20 over a six-game span.
The Golden Knights recorded the first goal of the contest at 1:06 of the second on the power play (Giguere), thus snapping the Bears' penalty kill streak. Shelton (13:40) and Tia Stoddard (16:13) closed the stanza with scores for a 3-0 Clarkson advantage. Brown had two power-play opportunities in the period but were shutout by the Golden Knights' defense.
Gabrielle David made it 4-0 Clarkson 43 seconds into the third and Shelton added her second tally of the night at 14:14 for the 5-0 final. The Bears fought off one penalty in the third to improve to 1-for-3 on the kill.
Brown closes the weekend tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 8) at St. Lawrence starting at 3:00 p.m.
