HENNIKER, N.H. – The Brown ski team concluded racing at the NEC Carnival at Pats Peak and Mount Sunapee on Saturday, Feb. 1 and Sunday, Feb. 2. The Bears claimed second in the slalom at Pats Peak and took third on Sunday at Mount Sunapee.
"We had some break out performances this weekend," said head coach Alex Norden. "Maggie had a great first run at Sunapee, and Kat stepped it up both days. The rest of the team was in a positive mindset and it showed as they progressed in their skiing. I think we're a lot more confident going into postseason than we were at this point last season. Really excited for next weekend."
In the slalom, sophomore Alexa Dannis (Hillsdale, N.Y.) led Brown with a fifth-place finish with a combined time of 1:40.02 while sophomore Avery Vilandrie (Peacham, Vt.) was close behind in sixth (1:40.61). Sophomore Maggie Beardsley (Sandy Hook, Conn.) was the Bears' next finisher in 12th (1:45.24) while freshman Kat Stephan (Charlestown, Mass.) placed a career-best 20th (1:50.16) and freshman Maddie McCarthy (Barrington, R.I.) took 27th (1:53.30).
On Sunday in the giant slalom, Beardsley took fourth in 1:54.41 while Dannis (1:56.48) and Vilandrie (1:56.50) went back-to-back in 10th and 11th, respectively. Stephan also added a finish of 20th (2:01.64).
Brown next competes at the Castleton Carnival, Saturday, Feb. 8 through Sunday, Feb. 9, at West Mountain.
