LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Brown ski team concluded competition at the USCSA National Championships at Whiteface Mountain on Thursday. The Bears placed third in the country in the slalom on Thursday while also competing in the giant slalom on Tuesday.
"The women skied really well as a team today," said head coach Alex Norden. "We haven't been to Nationals since 2017, and we really wanted to make a statement this year. With the devastating news of our spring athletic peers cutting their seasons short, we realized how lucky we are to be competing and representing Brown today. We wanted to be in the moment, and not take this opportunity for granted."
Sophomores Alexa Dannis (Hillsdale, N.Y.) and Avery Vilandrie (Peacham, Vt.) earned USCSA All-American honors in the slalom, with Dannis leading the two with a sixth-place finish (1:36.71) while Vilandrie came in 10th (1:39.06). Sophomore Maggie Beardsley (Sandy Hook, Conn.) (1:41.51, 19th) and freshman Maddie McCarthy (Barrington, R.I.) (1:44.05, 26th) also competed both runs for Brown.
Vilandrie led the Bears in Tuesday's giant slalom with a combined time of 1:51.72 for 19th. Dannis and sophomore Isabel Kronenberg (New York, N.Y.) completed their first runs but did not finish their second.
