
Skiing Closes the Regular Season at the Castleton Carnival

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Brown ski team concluded the regular season at the Castleton Carnival this weekend, competing in the slalom on Saturday, Feb. 8 and the giant slalom on Sunday, Feb. 9 at West Mountain. Sophomore Maggie Beardsley (Sandy Hook, Conn.) highlighted the Bears' performances by winning the giant slalom on Sunday for her first collegiate victory.
"We definitely had some break out moments this weekend," said head coach Alex Norden. "The team's overall progression is timing out well and our consistency will help us be ready for regionals in a couple of weeks."
Brown finished second on day one in the slalom with sophomore Alexa Dannis (Hillsdale, N.Y.) coming in second herself with a time of 1:47.78. Sophomore Avery Vilandrie (Peacham, Vt.) (1:49.10, 5th), Beardsley (1:50.24, 8th) and senior Becka Padgett (San Francisco, Calif.) (1:53.66, 12th) all recorded top-15 finishes while freshman Kat Stephan (Charlestown, Mass.) (1:58.49, 26th) and sophomore Emi Ruth (Yarmouth, Maine) (2:26.71, 44th) also contributed for the Bears.
The team finished third in the giant slalom on Sunday with Beardsley taking the win with a combined mark of 2:14.11 for her first victory as a collegiate racer. Vilandrie followed in 10th (2.19.98) while Stephan (2:25.14, 20th) and Padgett (2:25.25, 21st) finished back-to-back. Sophomore Isabel Kronenberg (New York, N.Y.) (2:27.73, 28th) and Ruth (2:36.37, 41st) also completed the race.
For their performance over the regular season, Beardsley, Vilandrie and Dannis were selected to the All-MacConnell Division Team, which is awarded to the top 15 overall skiers with the combined highest points throughout the season. Beardsley also earned a spot on the All Sportsmanship Team.
Brown next competes at Eastern Regionals, Saturday, Feb. 22 through Sunday, Feb. 23, at Sugarloaf Mountain.
