LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Brown ski team competed at the Clarkson Carnival at Whiteface Mountain on Friday, Jan. 24 and Sunday, Jan. 25 in FIS-University giant slalom races both days.
The Bears finished fifth on opening day with sophomore Avery Vilandrie (Peacham, Vt.) leading the squad with a combined time of 1:48.86 (31st). Freshman Maddie McCarthy (Barrington, R.I.) (1:58.08, 55th) and senior Becka Padgett (San Francisco, Calif.) (2:01.39, 58th) also turned in finishes.
On Saturday, sophomore Maggie Beardsley (Sandy Hook, Conn.) led Brown in 27th-place with a time of 1:54.60. Vilandrie was shortly behind her in 29th with a mark of 1:55.59 while McCarthy finished in 2:03.84 (52nd) to help the Bears claim third overall.
Brown next races at the NEC Carnival, Saturday, Feb. 1 and Sunday, Feb. 2, at Pats Peak and Mount Sunapee.
