
Gymnastics Scores Season Highs on Bars, Floor at Southern Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Brown University gymnastics scored season highs on bars (48.850) and floor (48.425) as the Bears totaled a 192.400 to tie for third place in a quint meet at Southern Connecticut State University with the University of Bridgeport, Rhode Island College and West Chester University on Saturday afternoon at James Moore Field House.

"The team fought hard today and earned a season high on both bars and floor!" Brown head coach Sara Carver-Milne said. "Senior captain Erin Howell has given everything to this team in and out of the gym. It was so rewarding to see her earn a career-high on bars and lead the team on the competition floor!"

As a team, the Bears tallied a 47.650 on vault, season-best 48.850 on bars, 47.675 on beam, and a season-high 48.425 on floor.

In the team standings, Bridgeport won the meet with a 194.800, West Chester came in second with a 193.125, Brown and SCSU tied for third with a 192.400, and RIC finished fifth with a 181.525.

On vault, junior Alyssa Gardner (Angola, N.Y.) paced the Bears with a 9.675 for sixth while sophomore Mei Li Costa (Lawrenceville, N.J.) posted a 9.575. Freshmen Jasmine Lee (Bremerton, Wash.) and Ella Poley (Newton, Mass.) each notched a 9.475, and fellow freshman Lauren Lazaro (Wellesley, Mass.) added a 9.450.

Senior Erin Howell (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) led Brown on bars with a personal-best 9.850 for fourth place, and junior Emma Hansen (Cincinnati, Ohio) followed with a season-best 9.775 for fifth place. Poley and sophomore Sophia Petrillo (Stoneham, Mass.) each scored a 9.750, and Lee contributed a 9.725, tying season highs for Petrillo and Lee.

On beam, Lazaro tallied a team-high 9.700, and Hansen notched a 9.675. Costa and junior Rose Domonoske (Park City, Utah) each scored a 9.550.

Lazaro also led Brown on floor, posting a 9.750 with Gardner supporting her with a 9.725. Howell, junior Caroline Warren (Pawleys Island, S.C.), and Domonoske scored a 9.675, 9.650, and 9.625 respectively, marking a career high for Warren.

Next, Brown hosts Bowling Green and RIC for its Senior & Alumnae Meet on Sunday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
