NEWTON, Mass. – The Brown women's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 17 Boston College, 13-10, on Tuesday at the Newton Campus Lacrosse & Soccer Field. The Eagles benefited from five free-position goals and held off a second-half charge by the Bears.
Brown (2-1) was led by senior KC Williams (Duxbury, Mass.) who scored a career-high four goals, including three in a row in the first half. Sophomores Alaina Parisella (Chatham, N.J.) and Claire Jeschke (Syracuse, N.Y.) added two goals apiece with Jescke also contributing a helper. Sophomore Erin Tucker (Centerport, N.Y.) kept the Bears in the game with a season-high 11 saves, including seven in the second stanza.
"I thought we had outstanding effort against a talented and experienced BC team," said head coach Keely McDonald. "We need to clean up a few things to prepare for league play."
Boston College (3-2) opened the contest with a 2-0 lead with goals at 26:10 (player-up) and 23:42 (free position). Parisella netted Brown's first goal of the afternoon at 15:41 before the Eagles went up 3-1 at 14:08.
Williams next pulled the Bears ahead, 4-3, with three-consecutive goals at 11:07, 7:24 and 6:04, however, BC would end the half with three straight of its own (3:10 - player-up, 2:30, 1:28) to take the 6-4 lead into the break.
The Eagles held a 15-11 advantage in shots for the first while the Bears had a 6-5 edge in draw controls. BC took the only free-position shots of the frame and were 1-for-3.
Jeschke scored her first of the day at 29:04 to start things in the second. After BC added a goal at 26:19, Brown scored two-straight on tallies by Parisella (19:00) and Jeschke (13:27) to tie the game 7-7.
After a BC goal at 12:08 (free position), the Bears again tied the game (8-8), this time with a goal from junior Maggie Fowler (Bethesda, Md.) with the feed from sophomore Sophia DeRosa (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.).
The Eagles then went on a three-goal run to create some distance from the Bears, 11-8. DeRosa scored Brown's first player-up goal at 4:45 to give the Bears some life and pull within two (11-9) but Charlotte North responded at 3:43 (free position) with her third goal of the game, second of the half.
Williams added her fourth goal of the day at 2:10 but it proved to be too late as Cara Urbank recorded the final tally for BC with three seconds remaining for the 13-10 final.
The Eagles outshot the Bears 18-11 for the second and 33-22 overall. Draw controls favored BC in the second half as well at 9-5 and 14-11 for the game. The Eagles again had the only free-positions of the period and were 4-of-8, improving to 5-of-11 in the contest.
BC was led by North who had a hat trick, two assists and 11 draw controls while Jenn Medjid also registered a hat trick. Rachel Hall made one save in 41:00 minutes for BC while Abbey Ngai closed out the game with one stop in the final 18:57 minutes.
