
Black History Month 2020: Herman Ssebazza '70, Men's Soccer

Throughout the month of February, Brown Athletics will celebrate Black History Month through a series of profiles. Over the course of the month, the Bears will recognize African Americans who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.
Herman Ssebazza '70, Men's Soccer
A member of the Brown Athletic Hall of Fame, Herman Ssebazza '70 played for the Ugandan national soccer team in 1966 prior to coming to Brown, where he played on several of the Bears' finest soccer teams. Ssebazza helped the Bears win the Ivy League title in both 1967 and 1968 and helped lead the team to NCAA tournament appearances in 1968 and 1969, including a run to the national semifinals in 1968. A two-time Second Team All-America selection, he also garnered First Team All-Ivy accolades in 1968 and 1969 in addition to Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors in 1967. Brown head coach Cliff Stevenson described Ssebazza as "the most exciting player that I've had" and as "a legend."
