
Women’s Hockey Tripped Up by No. 6 Princeton, 4-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 6 Princeton, 4-1, on Saturday at Meehan Auditorium. Sophomore Tina Paolillo (East Haven, Conn.) scored for the second-straight game and third time in her last five outings.
The Tigers benefited from a three-goal first period in the win. The Bears limited sixth ranked Princeton to just one goal through the final two periods and outshot the visitor's 11-8 in the second stanza.
Brown's (3-18-2, 2-13-1 ECAC) penalty kill improved its shutout streak to five-straight games, going a combined 19-for-19 on the kill including 3-for-3 against the Tigers, who lead the ECAC in power-play percentage . Senior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) concluded the contest with 35 saves, her 12th game this season with 30 or more saves. Princeton (17-4-1, 12-3-1 ECAC) was led by Carly Bullock who contributed two goals while Maggie Connors recorded a tally and an assist.
After Paolillo gave the Bears an early 1-0 lead at 4:11 of the first with her put-back from the slot, the Tigers scored three unanswered goals, including two from Bullock (9:44, 17:05) to take a 3-1 lead after the opening 20 minutes. Sophomore Lizzy Gross' (Scarborough, Maine) assisted Paolillo's tally for the second-straight game, putting the original shot on goal that was turned away by Princeton's Cassie Reale.
Brown fought off the lone penalty in the first as Isaac contributed four saves in the sequence and had 17 overall in the period.
The Bears outshot the Tigers 11-8 in a scoreless second period that saw only one power play with Princeton whistled for its first infraction of the day.
Princeton distanced itself in the third when Connors made it a three-goal game at 8:16. Brown closed the period with four shots on target and had two power-play opportunities but could not find a score.
Each team was 0-for-3 in the contest on the power play while the Tigers outshot the Bears, 39-19, overall. Reale finished with 18 saves in the opposing net.
Brown will next head to North Country to take on No. 7 Clarkson on Friday, Feb. 7 (6:00 p.m.) and St. Lawrence on Saturday, Feb. 8 (3:00 p.m.).
