PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown women's hockey head coach Carisa Zaban Wahlig has announced the addition of Olivia Spellmire to the program as an assistant coach on Monday. Spellmire comes to Brown after serving as an assistant with Maine for the 2019-20 season.
"We are excited to have Olivia on staff," said Zaban Wahlig. "She brings a great energy, dedication, and passion to everything she does."
In her lone season with the Black Bears, Spellmire helped lead the team to the Hockey East Semifinals, sweeping No. 8 Boston University. She was in charge of video breakdown and analysis of opponents and players in addition to designing practice plans.
"I am honored to join the coaching staff at such a prestigious school such as Brown University," said Spellmire. "Hockey is my passion and getting to coach alongside my mentor Carisa Wahlig is an opportunity I'm very grateful to have received. I would like to thank the coaching staff at the University of Maine and my family for helping me get to this point in my career."
Spellmire had a decorated collegiate career at Lake Forest College and played one year of professional hockey in the Swedish Women's Professional League following graduation.
At the end of her four seasons at Lake Forest, Spellmire had played in 110 career games and tallied 132 career points (53 goals and 79 assists). She left the program first all-time in assists, second all-time in points and third all-time in goals and game-winning goals. Additionally, she was an assistant coach at Lake Forest High School for three seasons.
As a senior, Spellmire was named NCHA Player of the Year, AHCA First Team All-American, NCHA First Team All-Conference, NCHA Tournament Most Valuable Player and was a Laura Hurd Award finalist for the nation's top NCAA Division III women's hockey player.
Following her playing career, Spellmire was the Division III columnist for USCHO.com for the 2018-19 season.
A 2018 graduate of Lake Forest, Spellmire received a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and is currently pursuing her MBA with an emphasis in Sports Business at Grand Canyon.
