PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by Quinnipiac, 3-1, on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium. Sophomore Tina Paolillo (East Haven, Conn.) cut the Bears' deficit to one with her goal at 6:48 of the third period but the Bobcats would put the game out of reach with a score at 17:28.
Paolillo scored for the second time in her last four games while senior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) ended the night with 29 saves. Brown (3-17-2, 2-12-1 ECAC) was 2-for-2 on the penalty kill to improve to 16-for-16 over its last four games.
Quinnipiac (14-10-3, 6-7-2 ECAC) was led by Kati Tabin, Taylor House and Taylor Girard who all registered a goal and an assist while Abbie Ives stopped 17 shots in the Bobcat net.
Isaac opened the contest with 13 saves in a scoreless first period with back-and-forth action that saw the visitor's hold a 13-8 edge in shots. The Bears shutdown the Bobcats on the only power play of the stanza with Isaac making two saves in the two minutes.
Brown started the second with two power plays but could not convert. As the Bears' second power play expired, Quinnipiac quickly passed the puck up to Girard, who just got out of the box and was able to skate in by herself for a goal at 10:13 and a 1-0 lead. Kati Tabin increased the Bobcats' lead to two just before the end of the period at 17:40. Quinnipiac doubled Brown's output in shots for the stanza, 12-6, while the Bears improved to 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
Paolillo pulled Brown within one at 6:48 when she collected sophomore Lizzy Gross' (Scarborough, Maine) rebound and fired it top shelf from the slot. Junior Megan Forrest (Enfield, Nova Scotia) also gathered an assist on the score.
The Bears had an early 3-0 lead in shots for the third but Quinnipiac would soon even the margin and add a score from House at 17:28 to move ahead by two goals for the eventual final of 3-1.
Brown next closes out the weekend hosting No. 6 Princeton at Meehan Auditorium tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 1) at 3:00 p.m.
Video of all Brown women's hockey home contests and all ECAC games, home and away, will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
