
Hansen Takes Beam Title, Gymnastics Places Second at Bridgeport with 190.800

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Junior Emma Hansen won the beam title with a career-high 9.825 as Brown University gymnastics scored a 190.800 to place second in a quad meet at the University of Bridgeport with Yale University and Rhode Island College on Sunday afternoon at the Wheeler Recreation Center.

"I'm very proud of the team's grit and determination," Brown head coach Sara Carver-Milne said. "We're improving every week and adding depth to our lineups. We delivered some great individual performances today and showed a lot of potential!"

In the team standings, Brown defeated Yale (190.375) and RIC (173.825) while the host Purple Knights won the meet with a 193.625.

The Bears totaled four top-three individual finishes on the afternoon. Hansen (Cincinnati, Ohio) won on beam, sophomore Mei Li Costa (Lawrenceville, N.J.) finished second on bars (9.850) and third on beam (9.800), and junior Alyssa Gardner (Angola, N.Y.) came in third on vault.

In the all-around standings, freshman Jasmine Lee (Bremerton, Wash.) came in fourth place with a 37.625, eclipsing her 37.500 from her collegiate debut last weekend.

As a team, Brown scored a 47.975 on floor, 47.825 on beam, 47.600 on vault, and a 47.400 on bars.

Gardner paced the Bears on vault with her 9.700 for third place, while freshman Lauren Lazaro (Wellesley, Mass.) scored a 9.575. Costa and Lee tallied a 9.550 and 9.450 respectively while sophomore Sophia Petrillo (Stoneham, Mass.) and freshman Ella Poley (Newton, Mass.) each posted a 9.325.

On bars, Costa led Brown with her second-place 9.850, and Petrillo followed with a 9.575. Hansen and Lee each registered a 9.550.

Hansen led all gymnasts at the meet on beam with a career-high 9.825 for first place. Costa gave the Bears two of the top three spots on the event with a personal-best 9.800 for third place. Lazaro, Lee, and freshman Lauren McKeown (Austin, Texas) scored a 9.725, 9.275, and 9.200 respectively.

On floor, Gardner matched her career high with a 9.725 for fourth place. Senior Erin Howell (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and Lazaro each recorded a 9.650, Hansen notched a 9.600, and Lee tallied a 9.350.

Next, Brown hosts Bridgeport and RIC in the Bears' home opener at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sunday, January 26 at 1:00 p.m.
