Women’s Soccer’s Carchio Selected as Senior CLASS Award Candidate

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer senior midfielder Abby Carchio has earned selection as selection as one of 30 candidates for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award in women's soccer for her notable achievements both on and off the field, the Senior CLASS Award announced on Monday.
A native of Lakeville, Mass., Carchio put together an outstanding junior campaign, earning First Team All-Ivy, Third Team All-East Region, First Team All-New England, and New England Midfielder of the Year honors. During the 2018 season, she led the Ivy League in points (28) and assists (eight), while ranking second in the conference in goals (10). A back-to-back First Team All-Ivy selection in 2017 and 2018, she has earned the team's Ridgely Most Valuable Player Award in each of the last two years.
During the summer of 2018, Carchio took part in Brown's Global Sport Community Fellows Program, a dynamic summer fellowship opportunity for Brown student-athletes focused on strengthening the capacity of local community organizations to deliver sport opportunities for Providence-area youth.
A History concentrator and a 2018 Fall Academic All-Ivy selection, Carchio has an interest in entering a career in coaching and mentoring the next generation of soccer players.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches, and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character, and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2019 NCAA Women's College Cup championship in December.
Next, Carchio and the Bears begin Ivy League play with a home match against Dartmouth on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Video of all Brown women's soccer home contests and all Ivy League games, home and away, will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
