
Field Hockey Hosts No. 20 Albany and Hofstra this Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After back-to-back away games last weekend, the Brown field hockey team returns home to Goldberger Family Field to host a pair of games on Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22. The Bears first welcome No. 20 Albany to town on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. while a matchup with Hofstra follows the day after, also a 1:00 p.m. start. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+.

THE BEARS
Senior Gina Openshaw leads the team in points with six, all of them coming on goals (3). The Annapolis, Md. native is tied for 14th all-time at Brown with 18 career goals. Junior Lexi King, sophomore Danielle van Rootselaar and freshman Emma Rothkopf all have three points, all on one goal and one assist. Freshman Jodie Brine has seen action in two games in the cage, and has a .500 save percentage and a 5.44 goals-against average.
SCOUTING ALBANY
The Great Danes are 3-3 and are ranked No. 20 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. Albany has won its last two, with victories at UMass (2-1, Sept. 14) and Colgate (4-0, Sept, 17). All three of the Great Dane defeats have come to ranked opponents - No. 16 Delaware (1-0, Aug. 30), No. 6 Harvard (2-1 OT, Sept. 6) and No. 5 Princeton (4-3. Sept. 13). Dana Bozek leads the team in points with 14 on six goals and two assists while Kelsey McCrudden paces the team in assists with eight and has one goal for 10 points. Melissa Nealon has started all six of Albany's game in goal and has a 1.98 goals-against average and a .765 save percentage.
SCOUTING HOFSTRA
The Pride are 2-4 for the season, having most recently defeated Quinnipiac, 3-2, on Monday. Hofstra has won two-straight with the addition of a 3-1 victory versus Sacred Heart on Sept. 11. Prior to playing Brown on Sunday, the Pride will play against Bryant on Friday. Cami Larsson leads the team in points with five on two goals and one assist. Madison Warfel also has multiple goals with two. Merlijn van der Vegt leads the netminding group with four starts and has a 2.50 goals-against average and a .773 save percentage while posting a 2-2 record.
ALL-TIME VS. ALBANY
The Bears and Great Danes have met just once all time, with Brown winning the lone contest, 7-0, in Providence in 2004.
LAST TIME VS. HOFSTRA
The series against the Pride is tied, 5-5, with the last meeting between the two squads in 2003, a 2-1 win by Hofstra. The Pride have won the last two games of the series while Brown last posted a victory in 2000 (4-1 at Hofstra).
