PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's rugby team opened the 15s season against LIU on Saturday, defeating the Sharks, 60-19, at Marvel Field. Freshman Mahdia Parker (Harlem, N.Y.) paced the Bears offensively with three tries in her collegiate debut.
"Obviously the score shows we had a good offensive game and we will need to tighten up our discipline on defense if we are to continue our success for the future," said head coach Kathy Flores.
Brown jumped out to a 33-7 lead by halftime. Senior Abby O'Keefe (St. Louis, Mo.) got things started, scoring the first try of the season as Brown took a 7-0 advantage with a successful kick. Sophomore Zy Thomas (Fairfield, Calif.) and Parker each added a try before O'Keefe put in her second of the afternoon for a score of 28-0. Sophomore Emmajane Rhodenhiser (Ann Arbor, Mich.)made it 33-0 before LIU recorded its first try and converted a kick.

Senior Alexandria Simon (Kaunakakai, Hawaii) then got into the scoring column before Parker contributed her third try for a score of 60-14.
