
Miklasevich Takes Silver at U-23 Rowing Championships

Miklasevich, Biggs and de Jong Compete on Sunday Finals
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Recent Brown University graduate Alex Miklasevich '19 (Pittsburgh, Pa.) of the men's crew program helped the United States earn silver in the men's eight at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships Sunday in Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida.

Miklasevich and the U.S. crew finished runner-up in a time of 5:36.21 in the finals just ahead of the Netherlands (5:36.360) by 0.15 seconds. Great Britain claimed gold with a time of 5:34.300. Miklasevich rowed in the seventh seat on Sunday and recently graduated from Brown with a degree in Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations.

Fellow recent graduate Rufus Biggs '19 (Marlow, UK) rowed for Great Britain in the men's coxless pair (M2-), along with James Snowball, and earned a sixth-place finish in the finals on Sunday at 6:43.490. Romania topped the field in a time of 6:29.240. A two-time team captain and history concentrator at Brown, Biggs stroked the British crew and represented Molesey Boat Club in the event.

Rising junior Jaap de Jong (Amsterdam, Netherlands) teamed up with Ralf Rienks in the double skulls (M2x) and helped the Netherlands capture fifth place in the finals at 6:30.030. The duo finished third in the opening heats and then the semifinals to advance to the final race on Sunday, which was won by Italy at 6:14.840.

The World Rowing Under 23 Championships is raced in 22 boat classes and is open to all World Rowing Federation (FISA) member nations. Rowers must be under the age of 23. The under-23s began in 1976 and was called the 'Seniors Match'. The name was then changed to the 'Nations Cup' before becoming the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in 2005.
