
Gymnastics Announces Villegas as Assistant Coach

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Jay Villegas, a veteran coach with close to 40 years of experience coaching gymnasts in New England, is set to join the Brown University gymnastics program as an assistant coach, Brown head coach Sara Carver-Milne announced on Friday.

Villegas' extensive experience includes serving as the competitive program director at Ocean State School of Gymnastics from 2007-17 and as a staff member with USA Gymnastics from 1990-2000.

With Ocean State School of Gymnastics, Villegas acted as both a head coach and the competitive program director, coaching gymnasts through the elite level. During his time with USA Gymnastics, Villegas worked as both a USA Regional Tops Coordinator and as a National Team Staff Member. He provided technical analysis for gymnasts from across the country in those roles.

Villegas also acted as the head coach and program director at Kingstown Gymnastics from 1983-2001 and as an assistant coach at Grossfeld Gymnastics in Milford, Conn., from 1980-85.

A former collegiate gymnast at Southern Connecticut State University, Villegas has served as a certified personal trainer and certified strength and conditioning coach for over 30 years. He acts as a national and regional clinician and is known for his strong technical coaching skills.
