PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Recent Brown University graduates Alex Miklasevich '19 (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Rufus Biggs '19 (Marlow, UK), and rising junior Jaap de Jong (Amsterdam, Netherlands) of the men's crew program have been selected to compete at the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships on July 24-28 in Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida.
Miklasevich, who graduated with a degree in Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations, was named to the United States roster and will row in the fifth seat of the men's eight (M8+) boat. He earned a spot on the national team for the fourth time in his career and most recently captured gold in the four with coxswain event at the 2018 World Championships last summer.
Biggs graduated for Brown with a degree in history and will row for Great Britain in the men's coxless pair (M2-). A two-time team captain at Brown, Biggs represents Molesey Boat Club, and will team up with James Snowball of Oxford Brookes University Boat Club in the event. He previously rowed for Great Britain at the 2015 World Rowing Junior Championships.
de Jong will be rowing in the double skulls (M2x) for the Netherlands along with Ralf Rienks. He will be making his second-straight appearance at the U23 World Championships after he stroked the Netherlands' men's eight to a sixth-place finish in the A Final last summer.
