PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Carly Paul (For Collins, Colo.) of the Brown women's track & field team is set to compete at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship this weekend at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Â
Paul will compete in the heptathlon on June 7-8, with four events on Friday and three on Saturday, starting with the 110-meter hurdles at 3:30 PM (EST) as the opening event. Every event of the heptathlon will be streamed live on ESPN3.
Â
Paul earned one of the 24 direct spots to the national meet in the heptathlon since the event is not held at the regional championships. She will be competing at the NCAA Championships for the second straight season, but for the first time in the heptathlon, after she earned Second Team All-American honors in the high jump last year.
Â
A fifth-year senior, Paul is in the middle of another standout campaign for the Bears, as she set the Ivy League record for the heptathlon in April with 5,632 total points at the Tennessee Relays. She went on to earn Second Team All-Ivy honors with a runner-up performance in the event at the Ivy League Championship and also competed in the high jump and long jump at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville. Paul is a former Ivy League champion in the heptathlon (2018) and pentathlon (2018).
Â
"I'm really excited for this meet and it's definitely the culmination of my entire experience at Brown," said Paul, who is concentrating in Development Studies. "I've learned to soak in the moment, which really helped me enjoy it last year and perform well, but this year is the last one, so there is no room for not leaving it out there, which will foster the right attitude."
Â
Paul is seeded 15th in the NCAA heptathlon qualifier list and will be one of only two competitors from the Ivy League in the event, along with Beatrice Juskeviciute of Cornell.
