NEW ORLEANS – Brown track and field's Ken Hunt was named the Northeast Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Hunt, now in his seventh season at Brown as the coach for jumps and combined events, guided his athletes to 51 of the team's 59 points at the Ivy League Championships, almost recording every point by the program by itself at the meet. He coached Carly Paul to the all-time Ivy League record in the heptathlon at 5,632 points and was a national qualifier in the event.
Hunt's long jumpers went 1-2-3 at the Ivy League Championships and four long and one high jumper all advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary meet. The long jump quad ranked fourth in the nation while the triple jump group came in tenth. Four of his long jumpers posted marks over six meters with two of them over 6.20m. His athletes also broke school records in the long jump, heptathlon and 4x100 relay.
This is the second regional award for Brown this season after Owen Russell was named the Northeast Regional Male Field Athlete of the Year during the indoor campaign.
Brown now heads to the NCAA Championships, where Paul will compete in the heptathlon, starting Friday, June 7 in Austin, Texas.
