Howell to Serve Brown Gymnastics as Captain in 2019-20

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University gymnastics rising senior Erin Howell will serve the Bears as captain during the 2019-20 academic year, Brown head coach Sara Carver-Milne announced on Thursday.

"Erin is a natural leader and leads by example in every endeavor," Carver-Milne said. "She has remained dedicated to Brown gymnastics through thick and thin and has a healthy balance in all aspects of her life. Erin is a great listener, a compassionate teammate, and a driven young woman, pursuing each of her goals with grit and determination. We are so fortunate to have Erin help lead and mentor this team in her final season as a Bear."

A native of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., Howell has competed for the Bears for three seasons and has earned ECAC All-Academic Team honors in each of the last two years. She won the team's Unsung Hero award as a sophomore and has tallied career highs of 9.750 on bars and 9.450 on vault.

Howell will lead the Bears coming off a season in which the program recorded seven All-Ivy Classic awards, six regular season All-ECAC awards, six USAG All-America awards, and nine ECAC All-Academic honorees.
