PRINCETON, N.J. – Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Mark Sluys (Gig Harbor, Wash.) of the Brown baseball team were named First Team All-Ivy, and Dustin Baird (Indianapolis, Ind.) earned Second Team honors, announced Thursday in a vote by the league's head coaches.
Â
Brown posted multiple First Team All-Ivy selections for the third time in the last four seasons.
Â
Lomuscio was a unanimous selection on the First Team after a breakout season for the Bears as the team's center fielder. The sophomore posted a .370 batting average in Ivy League play and tied for the league lead with 37 hits. He also added a .540 slugging percentage and a .422 on-base percentage in league play, scoring 21 runs out of the leadoff spot, and racked up 20 total multiple-hit games during the season. He was recently named a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. Â
Â
Sluys was named to the First Team as a utility player and earned All-Ivy accolades for the first time in his career. The senior tri-captain split time between catcher, first base, third base and designated hitter during the season and finished with a .325 batting average in Ivy League games. Sluys paced the Brown lineup with seven home runs, including five against league opponents, and finished with a .578 slugging percentage in Ivy games.
Â
Baird earned a spot on the Second Team as he collected All-Ivy honors for the first time in his career. The junior right-hander was one of the top relief pitchers in the Ivies and led the team with 19 overall appearances, including 12 in league play, as he finished with a 2.11 ERA in 21.1 innings of work. He limited Ivy opponents to a .203 batting average.
